Caving at Raccoon Mountain

Depart – Saturday, Jan 23th at 6:00 AM from Zion Parking lot
Return – Sunday, Jan 24th, 12:00 Noon at 183 Office Suites Building
Dress – Class A uniform
Cost - $54 - 80 per scout ($ 5 for food, $38 for caving adventure, $7 - $26 for Merit Badge - $11 for Geology or Orienteering recommended, $4 per Go-Kart ride)

Merit badges

  • Geology Badge: Your scouts will be able to complete all of the requirements. $11.00 - 2 1/2 hours.
  • Forestry Badge: Will complete all of the requirements $7.00 - 2 hours.
  • Soil & Water Conservation Badge: Your scouts can fulfill all of the requirements. $7.00 - 1 1/2 hours.
  • Orienteering Badge: Can complete. $11.00 - 5 hours.
  • Environmental Science Badge: Scouts have to complete two (2) requirements (air pollution and pollution prevention) that require seven days of observation and practice on their own in order to complete the badge. $11.00 - to 3 1/2 hours.

Scouts should bring – Ground cover, sleeping bag, class B uniform, personal items (face cloth, towel, soap, toothbrush, comb, hair spray, etc), jeans and clothes you don't mind getter real dirty, change of under clothes and socks, poncho, scout book, COMPASS, flash light and extra batteries.

Scout Climbing Outing

2 hour unlimited rock climbing with program direction, safety equipment, and climbing shoes. Instruction may include belay, boulder spotting, and rappel, climbing technique, care and use of equipment technique.

Project COPE and Character camp out

COPE 


What:  Project COPE (Challenging Outdoor Personal Experience)

Date: September 25-27, 2009

Where: Woodruff Scout Reservation

Agenda

Details

  • Arrive at Church at 6:00 pm on Friday – September 25th. Depart from the Church at 6:30 pm
  • Return Sunday, September 27th, to Building at 183 Norcross Street at 4:00 pm
  • Cost - $50 per scout (course fee, food, & transportation), $20 if not doing COPE
  • Food will be furnished for Saturday and Sunday. Scouts should eat before departing or bring their dinner for Friday evening.
  • Each scout must have a completed transportation form, updated physical form, and the Hold Harmless and Informed Consent Forms prior to any participation in COPE. Forms are attached. Forms will be collected prior to departure.
  • Each scout should have his own tent or agreement to share a tent with another scout. Scouts should have all necessary camping equipment, including sleeping bag, coat, personal care items, poncho, water bottle, flashlight, etc. Long pants are required to participate in the course.
  • Be prepared for cooler weather. Lows are expected to be in the low 50s/ upper 40s and highs in the mid 70s.
  • Scouts should be at least 13 years of age by January 1, 2008 or have completed the seventh grade.
  • No electronics gadgets (cell phones, IPods/MP3/CD players, games, etc.)

Forms


Project COPE is a national program of the Boy Scouts of America. The program is composed of group initiative games, trust events, low-course events, and high-course events. Some activities involve a group challenge, while others develop individual skills and agility. Participants climb, swing, balance,jump, rappel, and devise solutions to a variety of problems.

Fishing and Tubing at Galt's Ferry on Lake Allatoona

Location – Galt's Ferry on Lake Allatoona

Dates – 9/5
Departure – Saturday, September 5th at 6:30 AM from Zion Parking lot
Return – Saturday, September 5th at 2:30 AM from Zion Parking lot
Dress – Class B uniform, swim trunks and towel
Cost - $5 per scout ($ 5 for misc expense)
Scouts should bring – Fishing rods, bait and tackle will be provided

Grub plan:

  • Scouts will eat breakfast before or bring their breakfast. Hot dogs (or hamburgers), chips and soda for lunch, along with an apple or banana.

Directions from the church:

· Turn right onto Norcross Street

· Turn left onto Holcomb Bridge Road (Highway 92)

· Travel west on Highway 92 crossing over I-575 and travel several more miles to Bell's Ferry Road.

· Turn right onto Bell's Ferry Road and follow to Kellogg Creek Road.

· Turn left onto Kellogg Creek Road, cross over creek.

· Approximately 1-2 miles on right you will see signs to Galt's Ferry. Turn right.

· Follow road. You will get to a fork in the road, continue to follow signs to Galt's Ferry. (Stay to the left)

There is a $4.00 fee per Car to park.

Who needs a fishing license?

Anyone age 16 and older must have a current Georgia fishing license in their possession while fishing in freshwater or saltwater in Georgia. Conservation Rangers may require identification when checking fishing licenses.
Exceptions:

  • a fishing license is not required to fish in private ponds (this does not include ponds owned by governments - county, state, or federal).
  • a fishing license is not required by a landowner and their immediate family when fishing on their land.
